Members Plant ID Party + Potluck
Thanks for being an ONPN Member!
Please join us for an early evening of plant identification fun, food, and community.
Micah Friedman will be leading a plant ID demonstration, then we'll break into teams to put our plant identification skills into practice. Terrain will be mostly flat and ample parking is available. Restrooms onsite. We will conclude with a potluck meal. Please bring a dish to share, a set of utensils, plate and napkin. Drinks will be provided.
Other helpful items to pack: Refillable water bottle, bug spray, comfy, closed toe shoes.

Martin Park Ordinances & Rules
To preserve Martin Park as a specialty nature area and make the park experience more enjoyable for all of our visitors, we ask everyone to abide by the following rules and ordinances:
No fires (Municipal Code 38-90)
Smoking or use of any tobacco products are prohibited (Municipal Code No 30-471)
No fishing or hunting
No swimming or wading (Municipal Code No 38-145)
Bicycles are not allowed in the park
Releasing of animals is prohibited (Municipal Code No 38-93)
Feeding of wildlife is NOT allowed
Stay on the designated trails
Pets of any kind are STRICTLY PROHIBITED (Municipal Code No 38-93). ADA service animals are welcome. ESA not recognized.
Cameras are welcome and encouraged, but the use of drones or unmanned aircraft is strictly forbidden (Municipal Code No 38-99).
Weapons of any kind are prohibited, except those firearms as permitted by state law. (Municipal Code Article X)
Okies for Monarchs Native Plant Sale and Pollinator Party

Hey Southeastern Oklahoma! Okies for Monarchs is coming to you on Saturday, October 11 to ask for your help to save the monarchs and our other pollinator friends! We will be in Calera at the Choctaw Cultural Center from 11:30 am to 3:30 pm with native wildflowers and milkweed for sale. Additionally, we will have experts on hand to answer your questions and provide presentations that are full of helpful knowledge and useful tips for your monarch-saving adventures! And not only that, we’ll also have FREE MILKWEED* at the Okies for Monarchs booth.

Come out to the beautiful Mary K. Oxley Nature Center on October 4th from 10am-2pm for a day of plants and community under the shade of their Shumard oaks! Bring your gardening questions, as we'll have 8 Oklahoma local vendors ready to help you find the right plants for your garden (that's right, even dry shade!). We look forward to seeing you there!
Address and supplemental directions to the Oxley visitor center: 6700 Mohawk Blvd. Tulsa, Ok 74115. Once you have entered Mohawk Park, follow the road and make your first left after the zoo. Follow this road for one mile to the entrance to the nature center.

Monarchs in the Park Festival exists to educate and celebrate with the citizens of Norman the value of the migration of the monarch butterfly. The FIFTH ANNUAL festival will feature native plant sales, games and crafts, pollinator and gardening experts, demonstrations, food trucks, and a special pollinator parade for the whole family.

ONPN Fall Native Plant Festival
Mark your calendars for Saturday, September 27th, from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. as we celebrate native plants and the people who love them. This year, we’re excited to announce a new, larger venue: The MAC at Mitch Park, located at 2733 Marilyn Williams Dr, Edmond, OK. With ample parking and more space for vendors, it’s the perfect place to grow our festival community!

11:00 a.m. – Keynote Speaker: Aaron Cain
“Establishing Native Plants in Challenging Conditions”
Aaron is the Parks Crew Manager for Westside Edmond Parks. His team is responsible for planting, soil amendments, bed maintenance, and managing native grasslands and trees. This informative indoor presentation will be a great start to the afternoon sessions.
12:00 p.m. – Guided Native Plant Hike with Sean Washington
Explore the natural area west of The MAC—an unmowed section of land that has become a haven for native plant and animal species. Sean Washington, a naturalist, science communicator, and founder/president of The Young Naturalist’s Club, will guide the hike and provide species identification and ecological insights.
1:00 p.m. – Wetland Bed Demonstration with Aaron Cain
Join Aaron outdoors for a live demonstration on wetland bed installation and plant selection, continuing the hands-on theme of the festival.
2:00 p.m. – Upland Prairie Demo with Marilyn Stewart
Marilyn Stewart of Wild Things Nursery (Seminole, OK) will present a hands-on session focused on upland prairie plants. Marilyn and her husband Ken have spent over 20 years helping Oklahomans grow beautiful native landscapes. Don’t miss this opportunity to wish her well in her recent retirement!
Additional Activities
Throughout the day, join in the Virtual BioBlitz at Mitch Park! Open to all ages, this interactive event encourages participants to document plant and animal species they find around the park. (Details provided below.)

Natasha will discuss operating a large-scale, ecologically driven nursery. Taylor Creek Restoration Nurseries operates five facilities, employs over 100 staff, and works on restoration projects in 38 states. Their commitment to using locally sourced seed genotypes sets a national standard for restoration nursery practices.
Elia Woods
